Market Research

The Marketing Section of a Business Plan generally reviews the "4 P's of marketing: product, price, place and promotion. You look at "place: by determining your market. This is done by researching and analyzing your industry, customers and competition. There are two types of market research, both of which are valuable:

  1. Primary research - first-hand information acquired through questionnaires and surveys
  2. Secondary research - gathered and published by other sources such as census reports from Statistics Canada

It is probably easiest to begin by looking at secondary information to have a good working knowledge of the subject. Then, you will be ready to search other information through primary research.
